- What Is Piece Rate?
Most production workers are paid on piece rate basis. This means that you are paid for each piece produced. All products have been time studied, and a standard price per piece is set. A worker will receive the prevailing wage rate when 100% productivity is achieved. Anyone working over 100% productivity will receive commensurate wages. The less time it takes to finish the job, the higher the pay will be. Employees will be subsidized to minimum wage while in the training period if necessary.
- What is Prevailing Wage Rate?
We are mandated by the Department of Labor to survey local industries
each
year so that we can pay a fair wage. The prevailing rates are based on
an
experienced non-entry level worker; a worker who has learned the basic
elements or requirements of the work to be performed, ordinarily by
completion of a probationary or training period.
- What does it mean to receive Sub-Minimum Wages?
Webster Enterprises applies for a Certificate Authorizing Special
Minimum
Wage Rates under Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act every two
years. This authorizes us to pay trainees with disabilities which
impair
their ability to perform the type of work being done to receive wage
rates
below the minimum wage otherwise required by the FLSA.
- Does Webster Enterprises hire people without disabilities?
Yes, in addition to individuals who come to Webster Enterprises for
assessment and training, Webster Enterprises hires individuals from the
community to work as model workers. We give individuals who are
preparing
for competitive employment in the community the experience of working
alongside individuals without identified disabilities. Consequently,
when
manufacturing demands are strong, Webster Enterprises hires individuals
without identified disabilities. Our model workers are expected to
exhibit
good work habits, comply with all rules and regulations of Webster
Enterprises and provide a good role model for the program participants.
Model workers are hired on an "as needed basis" to complete contracted
work.
Program participants are given first priority on all work.
- What Benefits are offered to employees?
All full time employees (trainees are not considered employees) who
maintain
an average of 35 hours per week are eligible to participate in our
health
insurance benefit package. Insurance becomes available on the first day
of
the new month after 60 days of employment. At this time Webster
Enterprises
pays 60% of the premium for the employee only. The employee is
responsible
for the amount for his/her spouse and/or children. The employee portion
of
the premium is deducted from the two pay periods every month. If an
employee elects to not participate in the healthcare benefits at the end
of
the first 60 days, he/she will not be able to sign up until the open
enrollment period of June 1st. Dental and life insurance are also
offered.
Employees also have the option of enrolling in any of the supplemental
insurance programs offered by Colonial Supplemental Insurance, AFLAC,
Western-Southern, or American General. A 403-B plan is offered through
Metropolitan Life. At this time Webster Enterprises does not have
matching
funds for the 403-B plan. All supplemental insurance premiums are the
full
responsibility of the employee with deductions made from each pay check.
Employees have the right to maintain their insurance benefits (COBRA)
for up
to 18 months after termination of employment (unless due to gross
misconduct). The employee and/or all dependents are responsible for the
entire monthly premium and it must be sent directly to Webster
Enterprises
by the first day of each month.
